Comedian Ron White might be bawdy onstage, but on the phone, he’s full of Southern charm. “Hello, darlin’,” he says upon introductions.
Of course, that doesn’t preclude the jokes. I talked to White, who shot to mainstream fame on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, for the Tampa Tribune about how traveling with his wife is a real trip.
White returns to Tampa for two shows on his “Nutcracker” tour at the Straz Center on Saturday night. His wife, singer Margo Rey, follows up with lush vocals and dynamic grooves at the TECO Theater for an official after-party — quite the change from crisscrossing the country with pals Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy.
The big difference about traveling with Rey versus the guys? “You don’t want to have sex with them,” White said during a phone call from Atlanta last week. “The funnest thing in the world for me to do is to watch my wife’s band after my shows. She’s a Bad Mama Jama. Crazy, crazy talent.”
