The best profession in the world

Remembering Helen Thomas today, who died Saturday at age 92. I have her book “Front Row at the White House,” which she was kind enough to autograph for me. It arrived signed in the mail (my friend James, who had worked with her, passed it along) after we lost our jobs when APBNews.com went bankrupt. The inscription often has made me smile: “To Valerie Kalfrin with my very best wishes and warm regards,” Ms. Thomas wrote. “You are in the best profession in the world.” Thank you, ma’am.
